Market Commentary

Market Stance: BULLISH (since December 1, 2009)

It was another outstanding week for Deen Capital clients, with the average managed account gaining +1.5%, versus a -0.3% drop in the S&P 500.

We continue to reap the benefits of near ideal market conditions, at least for us. This is a stock picker's market. Since mid-November, the S&P has been, and continues to be, locked in a very tight trading range, while, under the hood, high-growth, low-valuation stocks, the kind of stocks I favor, are performing well.

I mentioned that the market is locked in a tight range. This range is right up there at the market's 14-month high. The market is repeatedly testing resistance there. In my view, this is a good sign. There's a good chance that, sooner or later, resistance will give way and the market will break out.

My performance-of-recent-stock-picks indicator slipped from bullish to neutral, so that my three indicators are now overall neutral. Though I am on the lookout for signs of a market top, and my indicators are my #1 tool in this endeavor, a downshift from "overall bullish" to "overall neutral" is not, in my view, particularly worrisome. I am, of course, monitoring the situation daily.

In my view, the bull market we've enjoyed since March continues apace, and our aggressive portfolio (now 1.7 times as volatile, statistically, as the S&P) is well suited to this environment.

My Three Primary Technical Indicators:

                                       Prior week Now
                                       ---------- -------
NASDAQ Timing Model (Ver.10r): BEARISH BEARISH (1)
Last signal: BEARISH on Nov 20, 2009

Performance of Recent Stock Picks: +5.9 BULLISH +4.8 NEUTRAL (2)

Market Internals: 64% BULLISH 64% BULLISH (3)

-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Market's Overall Technical Rating: BULLISH NEUTRAL

Stocks:Cash ratio (average): 100:0 100:0

(1) A proprietary computer model based on technical analysis of the NASDAQ Composite.

(2) This number (from -10 to +10) is based on the performance of ALL my recent stock picks (I actually buy only some of these). A positive number means my recent stock picks are generally rising; a negative number means they are generally falling. Even so, I consider a reading below +3.1 to be bearish. I require a reading of +5.6 or better to call this indicator bullish.

(3) This is the percentage of stocks ($8 and up) which are trading above their 50-day moving average. The rating of this percentage (bullish, bearish or neutral) is based on which way it's been moving recently -- up, down or sideways.
