Today, Friday, September 9, 2005, I bought SFCC, first for client accounts, then for my personal accounts. SFBC International, Inc. is a contract research organization that conducts clinical research and provides drug development services for clients in the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries.

This stock is a component of the S&P 600 SmallCap Index.

Here's why I bought this stock:

+ Breakout: This morning, the stock is breaking out of a 6-month trading range into all-time high territory on heavy volume. As I write this, just over an hour-and-a-half after the opening bell, volume is already more than twice the daily average.

+ Excellent and accelerating recent sales growth: Here are the quarterly year-to-year sales growth rates from the last four quarters, in chronological order: +39%, +47%, +191%, and, most recently, for the quarter ended June 30, +192% to $106.4 million.

+ Excellent recent earnings-per-share growth: Here are the quarterly EPS figures for the last eight quarters:

Sep 04 vs Sep 03: 34c vs 28c
Dec 04 vs Dec 03: 37c vs 29c
Mar 05 vs Mar 04: 48c vs 25c
Jun 05 vs Jun 04: 45c vs 31c

+ Rising earnings-per-share estimates: According to recent data from First Call, the consensus earnings estimate for 2005 is $1.99, revised upward from $1.79 90 days ago (and up from 2004 actual earnings of $1.26); and the consensus estimate for 2006 is $2.36, revised upward from $2.31 90 days ago.

+ Valuation: At 19 times next year's estimated earnings and a projected 5-year annualized earnings growth rate of 24.5%, the stock is attractively priced.

+ History of earnings surprises: This company has reported earnings at least 2c ahead of estimates in each of the past four quarters.

+ The stock's 200-day moving average is rising, indicating a long-term uptrend.

I chose to buy the stock in spite of the following negative factor:

- The company's industry group ("Medical/Dental Services") is ranked #25 for relative strength out of 197 industry groups tracked by Investor's Business Daily. This ranking changes daily, and it has been generally falling just slightly over recent weeks and months.
